Weekend Update

This weekend was packed with fun activities...

Friday night Ben and I had tickets to see Joel McHale at the Roxy Nightclub in Boston. Last minute the venue changed from the Wilbur Theater where we had seat assignments, and we ended up having to stand for the whole show at the Roxy which looks like Prince's bedroom (or what I imagine it looks like- purple w/giant disco balls hanging from the ceiling), but Joel McHale is so hilarious neither Ben or I minded. Ben and I had drinks at Legal Seafood after the show. Cooper had a wonderful time with his favorite babysitter Emily. I think he even got to stay up late (8!) since she came over at 7 which is pretty close to his normal bedtime. Due to a low camera battery I only got two really bad pictures of the night, but here's one:

Saturday we walked downtown to a Greek food festival at the Orthodox church in town- yummy Greek salad, lamb kabobs, and baklava- how can you resist? Of course, Cooper was not a fan and stuck to just the rice, but at least he ate! He also got to play at the playground downtown. Dead camera battery = no pictures. After Cooper's nap we all chilled in the family room and watched Toy Story 2.

Sunday morning we attempted to attend church as a family. As those of you with toddlers know they have no attention span or concept that it's a time to be quiet. It's too much to expect him to be quiet and sit still for an hour at this age. Because of this, and the fact that our church does not have a nursery available, we generally do not go since one of us always ends up in the graveyard outside the church with Cooper. Knowing this we decided to try attending the 9:00 service anyway. Ben and I split our time with Cooper outside and I brought him in as communion was ending while everyone was singing "Seek Ye First". The song ended, and it was quiet. At which point Cooper yells out 'Yay!' because the song was done. The entire congregation cracked up.

Sunday also started Yankee Homecoming in our town. This is new to me since it's our first year living here, but it seems a little like VEISHA for those of you Iowa Staters, but rather than a college setting celebrating all the colleges, it's a town celebration incorporating historical aspects of New England, and (mostly) family events. Anyway, we took Cooper to that in the afternoon. There was a steam engine on display that he was not crazy about- too loud for him, but he loved the pony ride, and the train ride. We also listed to a concert from Julie & Brownie (a kids pirate themed show) and Cooper played on the playground close by the events area. And, to top it off we made it home before the heavy rain started!

Cooper enjoying his pony ride on "TJ"

How he spent most of his time at the playground- getting nonexistent dirt out of his shoe. Toddlers!

Oh, that darn invisible dirt. How is it they never seem to mind the real dirt?
