I have tried to post the slideshow to go with this post in the same posting, but due to my lack of computer skills it's not happening.... so, pictures are going to be in a separate post.
This weekend, Ben, Cooper, Mama O, Papa O and I explored the Freedom Trail in Boston and the North End. There is so much history in this area it's really fun to explore around town.
We started out at Faneuil Hall. Cooper enjoyed the elevator ride to the meeting room and pointing out the giant eagle at the back of the room.
Next we made our way to Paul Revere's House. The house was built around 1680 and Paul Revere lived in it for 30 years starting in about 1770. No pictures are allowed to be taken on the inside, but they probably would not have turned out anyway since the inside is really dark. It's amazing that a home this old is still standing, and one of the guides said that part of the Big Dig went on right underneath the house. There was also a nice example of a Revere Bell in the courtyard. There's also a Revere bell at the church we attend in our town too.
Just a short walk from Paul Revere's house is the Old North Church. Cooper enjoyed spending time in the Revere family pew- I'm sure at his young age he appreciated the historical significance of the pew he chose to play in. :)
We then headed to Copp's Hill Burying Grounds.
By this time were were ready for a break and we stopped for lunch at a great North End Italian restaurant, The Florentine Cafe. We had a great seat by the wndows and Cooper got to people watch and had a great time. We also had to stop by Mike's Pastry and pick up some cannoli. It's not a trip to Boston if we don't get cannoli at Mike's. Cooper fell asleep shortly after this time so we headed back across 93 to the Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market area. We ran by a few more Freedom Trail sights while Cooper napped and then headed home.
