First Game of the Season

Yesterday was the first t-ball game of the season for Cooper. He has been very excited for spring t-ball to start up after he had so much fun with spring and fall ball last year. We had been prepping him that he may not end up on the same team with the same coach this year, but he did and is pumped to be a Diamondback again this year. He's playing in the 5 year old division which makes him one of the youngest in that bracket since he's technically not eligible for it with a May 5 birthday... the cut-off is April 30, but they let him squeak by since it was just a matter of days. This year it's a little tougher for both Ben and I to attend every practice and game because during the week they usually fall right around Abby's bed time. Yesterday she had a good morning nap and an even better afternoon nap (that in and of itself is noteworthy since she's still pretty much a cat-napper) so I was able to stay for most all of the game yesterday.

Cooper is the shortest one on his team and is wearing the #1 jersey because of that fact. He's happy to be the #1 jersey, and being short doesn't stop him from being a fast runner, so there's that. Last night he got out on second on his first time at bat, and then scored a run on each of his next two turns at bat. For outfield, he asked to play catcher for a while and enjoyed that, played second base, and first base so he got a wide variety of positions to test out. At the end of each game his coach hands out a game ball to someone who did a great job, and last night that was Cooper! He earned it by catching the ball at first and getting the last out of the game. He says it won the game, but it really didn't, their team was up 14-8, it just happened to be the last play of the game. Neither of us had the heart to break the news to him that he didn't win the game for his team, so we're letting him have his moment for now! The only downside to this whole thing is that I had already left to take Abby home when he got the runner out at first at the end of the game. There's another game on Saturday, and a whole season ahead so I'm sure there will be more to come.

Yes, you see the picture correctly. He's holding a peanut butter cracker. Right after this picture he took another tiny bite and decided that he hated the cracker with peanut butter. Typical!
